At the end of 2024, I had the privilege of undertaking an art residency, supported by Culture Moves Europe and the Goethe Institut. I chose to collaborate with Christina Elias, a Brazilian multidisciplinary artist based in Lisbon.
During this residency, hosted at two prominent artistic institutions in Lisbon—Chapitô and CEM Centre in Movement—Christina and I focused on developing and enhancing my artistic, physical, and conceptual abilities, bridging the gap between visual arts, particularly painting, and contemporary dance. Our exploration centered on how gestures and movements can inspire the creation of visual works, and how the act of drawing or creating images on surfaces like paper or canvas can inform and shape choreography in larger spaces.

We delved into a variety of movement and dance techniques, including Laban-Bartenieff Fundamentals, Butoh, Aikido, and Suzuki’s physical theatre. Over the course of the residency, we crafted the framework for a performance piece that reflects on themes of perishability, ephemerality, and human vulnerability—universal concepts that resonate across cultures. We viewed the body and movement as part of a continuous process of transformation, allowing these ideas to unfold organically through my work.

Parallel to the many learnings, I took the opportunity to focus on my ongoing series « Animated earth »

A term used in Andean culture for the human being. Highlighting the intimate and intricate relationship between land and body, and a conscious regard of the importance in maintaining both balanced and in harmony with one another.

Term first published in Comentarios Reales de los Incas (1609) by historian and poet, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega..
